About
Mel appeared a total of 5 times on The Tonight Show, including the very first episode ever. Here's a quick breakdown of the appearances:
Air Date | Info
October 1, 1962 This was Mel's first appearance on the show, as well as the first episode of the show itself. Mel and Carl came on and did their 2000 Year Old Man bit. You can watch a clip of it here.
October 17, 1970 I haven't been able to get any specifics of what Mel was on the show for this time, but considering that in 1970, his film The Twelve Chairs came out, I think it's safe to assume that he was promoting that film.
December 15, 1975 This one I'm guessing he was on either just talking about Blazing Saddles or Young Frankenstein, or perhaps he was promoting his new film Silent Movie.
September 29, 1980 This must be when he was going on a whirlwind promotion tour for History of the World, Part 1.
May 19, 1992 I'm betting this appearance was to plug Mel's film Life Stinks. This clip shows, however, that the discussion wasn't very focused on the film.
